What we make

A free Addiction Solitaire that stays in the browser

addictionsolitaire.app is the site behind our version of Addiction Solitaire. The product is a single-player card game: 48 cards face up in four rows of thirteen, four gaps where the Aces were, and one rule for moving — a gap takes the next card up in the same suit as the card on its left, with only 2s allowed in the first column. Sort every row from 2 to King to win.

We are not an app-store publisher and there is nothing to download. The game is the website, which keeps load times short, works on phones and desktops alike, and avoids an account wall. If you are comparing this with another Addiction Solitaire site, this page speaks only for addictionsolitaire.app; the rules as implemented here are set out in the how-to-play guide and the FAQ.

Where the game comes from

A gap-filling patience game

Addiction belongs to a family of patience games built around moving cards into holes to sort them into ordered rows. Related games go by names such as Gaps, Montana, and Vacancies, and they differ in small details: how the gaps appear, whether rows must share a suit, and how many times the leftover cards may be reshuffled. Addiction is the name most online card sites use for the version played here.

The game has no single documented inventor, and published sources disagree on some rules, so we are careful not to claim a definitive history. What we do know is how ours works: the Aces are removed, rows are built by suit from the 2, and the loose cards may be redealt three times, the count offered by the major online versions we compared while building this one.

The name is fair warning. A game is short, every deal is different, and the hardest part is stopping at one.

Design

How this version is built

  1. Every legal move is visible

Cards that can move right now are outlined in gold, and gaps that a card can fill are marked. Addiction has no hidden information, so the interface spends its effort showing you the board’s possibilities rather than making you hunt for them.

  2. One tap per move

Each gap accepts exactly one card, so tapping a card or a gap is enough to play. The only ambiguity is a 2 that could start more than one row, and there the valid spaces light up and you choose.

  3. Sorted runs stay sorted

A redeal never disturbs cards that already form a run from the left edge. Those cards are marked with a gold underline so you can see at a glance how much of each row is finished.

  4. Small board, readable cards

Thirteen columns is a lot for a phone. On narrow screens the cards become tall and slim so the rank and suit stay large, and the board, HUD, and controls fit on one portrait screen.

  5. Yours to keep, no account

Wins, best time, fewest moves, streaks, and your sound setting live in local browser storage. There is no login, no server copy, and no advertising profile behind them.

  6. Synthesized sound

Every effect is generated in the browser with the Web Audio API — no audio files to download. M mutes it, and the choice is remembered.
