What is Addiction Solitaire

The gap-filling patience game you can't put down

Addiction Solitaire deals 48 cards face up in four rows of thirteen, with the Aces removed to leave four gaps. Fill a gap with the next card up in the same suit as the card on its left, and work towards four rows that each read 2 through King. It is quick to learn, hard to finish, and every shuffle plays differently.

How to play

How to play Addiction Solitaire

Addiction is a game of order and planning. Fill each gap with the next card up in the same suit, and sort every row from 2 to King. Shuffle the loose cards when you run out of moves.

  1. 1

    Read the deal

The four Aces are removed and the other 48 cards are dealt face up into four rows of thirteen. That leaves four gaps on the board, one for each Ace. Your goal is to end with every row reading 2, 3, 4 … Queen, King from left to right, all in one suit.

  2. 2

Fill a gap with the next card up

A gap can be filled only by the card one rank higher than the card on its left, in the same suit. A gap right after the 6 of hearts takes the 7 of hearts, wherever that card is on the board. Move it and you leave a new gap behind.

  3. 3

    Start rows with a 2

A gap in the first column accepts only a 2, of any suit. That 2 sets the suit for the row. Nothing can follow a King, and nothing can follow another gap, so those gaps are dead until the cards around them change.

  4. 4

    Redeal when you are stuck

When no card can move, shuffle. Every card that is not already part of a solved run from the left edge is collected, shuffled, and dealt back, leaving one fresh gap after each row’s solved run. You get three redeals per game. Solve all four rows to win.

Tips to win more games

  • Before you move, look at the gaps and ask which card each one needs. A move that opens a gap you can fill next is worth more than one that opens a dead gap.
  • Avoid gaps that sit right after a King or next to another gap. They cannot be filled, so every dead gap is a space you cannot use until the next redeal.
  • A 2 in the first column is the anchor of a row. Choose which 2 goes where deliberately — the suit you start decides which cards that row will ask for.
  • Push the row that is furthest along. A longer solved run is locked in through redeals, and the gap after it becomes your working space.
  • Do not redeal the moment you run out of moves if you have an undo available. Step back and see whether a different order opens another line first.
  • Save redeals for when the board is genuinely stuck. Each one shuffles away unsolved progress, so use it when the loose cards have little left to give.
  • Use hints to learn, not to lean on. They prefer moves that lock a card in place, which is a good habit to copy.

FAQ

Addiction Solitaire, answered

Straight answers about the free Addiction Solitaire card game you can play online in your browser.

What is Addiction Solitaire?

Addiction Solitaire is a single-player card game played with a standard 52-card deck. The Aces are removed and the other 48 cards are dealt face up in four rows of thirteen, leaving four gaps. You fill each gap with the next card up in the same suit as the card on its left, working towards four rows that each read 2 through King in one suit. When you run out of moves you can shuffle the loose cards and redeal.

How do you play Addiction Solitaire?

Move a card into a gap only if it is one rank higher than the card to the gap’s left and of the same suit. The first column accepts only 2s. Nothing can follow a King or another gap. When no card can move, redeal: all cards outside a solved run from the left are shuffled and dealt back, with one gap after each run. You have three redeals. Win by completing all four rows.

Is Addiction Solitaire free to play online?

Yes. addictionsolitaire.app is completely free and runs entirely in your browser. There is nothing to buy, download, or install, and there are no video ads, premium tiers, or paywalls. Open the page, press Play, and a game is dealt.

Do I need to download an app or create an account?

No. The game is the website — a 100% browser-based build with no app store download and no sign-up. Your stats are saved locally in your browser, so there is no login to manage.

Why can only a 2 go in the first column?

Each row builds from 2 up to King, so the leftmost space of a row is where the 2 belongs. With no card to its left, the first column has nothing to match a suit against, so it takes any 2 and the 2 chosen sets the suit for that row. Aces are out of the game, which is why the sequence starts at 2.

How many redeals do I get?

Three per game, on top of the initial deal. A redeal collects every card that is not part of a solved run from the left edge, shuffles them, and deals them back with one gap after each row’s solved run. You can redeal at any time, but you cannot undo across a redeal.

Why does the game say there are no moves left?

Every gap is either right after a King, right after another gap, or waiting for a card that is not allowed to move there. When that happens the Redeal button lights up. If all three redeals are already spent, the game ends and counts as a loss.

Is every game of Addiction Solitaire winnable?

No. Some deals cannot be won however you play, and because redeals shuffle the loose cards, luck plays a real part as well as skill. Expect to lose more games than you win. If a deal starts badly, deal a new game — it is instant.

How do I win more games?

Before every move, check which gaps you will open and which you will close. Avoid leaving gaps behind a King or beside another gap, start rows with a 2 whose suit is easy to finish, and put your effort into the row that is furthest along. Hold redeals until the board has no useful move left, and use undo to test a line before committing.

Does the game save my progress?

Your games played, wins, best time, fewest moves, most cards placed, win streaks, and sound setting are saved locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no account. Because the save lives on the device, a different phone, a new browser profile, or cleared site data looks like a fresh start. A game in progress is not saved if you close the tab.

Can I play Addiction Solitaire on mobile?

Yes. The layout is built for touch: the full 4 × 13 board and the controls fit on one portrait screen, you tap a card to move it into its gap, and a new game is instant with no page reload.
